What is Pilates?

The Pilates exercise system is renowned for producing lean, lithe physiques since its inception in the 1920s by Joseph Pilates. It is a completely non-impact method that integrates the modern fitness elements of postural alignment, injury prevention, simultaneous muscular stretching and strengthening, correct breathing and understanding the body and mind connection. Pilates is designed to develop strength in the deep abdominal and back muscles, thus stabilizing the spine and improving postural alignment.

You will never be bored! Pilates incorporates more than 30 original floor exercises, with endless variations, and hundreds of different exercises performed on five primary pieces of equipment.

Pilates focuses on precision and control. Minimal repetitions are performed with correct body alignment, powered by mental concentration and breath control. Maximum efficiency and effectiveness are the goals.

The repertoire is variable enough for seniors, pregnant women and super-fit athletes, yet safe enough for injury rehabilitation. Pilates provides a complementary balance to any fitness regime.
